The Urban Institute’s Upward Mobility Initiative provides local leaders and change makers with 24 evidence-based predictors and the data needed to break cycles of poverty and reduce racial inequities. The current interface acts as a barrier to accessing this data, making this information difficult to understand and hard to use for those with lower data literacy. We provided communities with data and support tools to understand their barriers to upward mobility, compare progress against peers, prioritize local interventions, and track long-term impact towards economic and social progress in their communities. The October 2024 Data Dashboard launch event set a new attendance record for the Urban Institute, with over 1,700 participants. In the first six months, more than 15,000 users accessed the Data Dashboard.
